Hard to rate a park.. however there's free parking for the first 4 hours which is great and it makes for a good dog walk - although there's always a lot of dogs. Lots of different paths to explore and plenty of grass and trees. Right by a pub (the cowherds) and there's a cafe within the grounds (although the cafe doesn't allow dogs inside and doesn't take card). There's although a newly refurbished playpark for children with lots for them to do and a small outdoor gym for those wanting to get fit outdoors. Oh and there's park run here on Saturdays too. Doesn't have the best reputation for being a safe area in the evenings and at night. But daytime's are lovely and generally safe if you're with someone.

Having lived in Southampton with dogs for many years, I've often been to The Common and love it. There are lots of routes you can take to get around it and a couple of lakes where you can watch the birds, relax and get away from it all. It's large enough to hold a fair at Easter and still leave plenty of space for people to continue running and walking their dogs. There are usually plenty of parking spaces in Cemetery Road (free for 2 hours) or try to find somewhere to park along Hill Lane.

There is so much variety here it is impossible to do it justice in one visit. We were there today with a family group of 15, ranging from 6month to 65 years. Everyone found something to enjoy. It was a very easy place to be with children and still have bit of a walk or a coffee then let them roam free around the sandy play area full of accessible wooden structures and more tradition stuff like swings ans slides

This is a huge open space where people walk, jog, cycle, kick a ball around, visit the ducks, play in the playground, spot birds and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.I'd like to have given 5 stars but parts of it look "tired", the area where the playground used to be hasn't been finished off, many of the paths have pot holes, the woods need some attention... It's such an important resource for the people of Southampton but it does not have the cared-for look that it deserves. Maybe that will happen in 2019?

Love this local park, it's an oasis in the city.Edit 6 months later: there have been a couple of bodies found in the park in the last few months. Would be wise to stick to open, visible paths and avoid it altogether when it's dark. Be careful! Such a shame.
